Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Glucose Watch - Dexcom Companion.
What is Glucose Watch - Dexcom Companion?
Glucose Watch - Dexcom Companion sends your Dexcom glucose readings to your Wear OS watch so you can view them on your watch face or in a tile.
Which Dexcom CGMs are supported?
Dexcom G6, G7, One, One+, and Flex. The app reads Quick Glance notifications from the Dexcom app. Dexcom Stelo is not supported.
Which watches are supported?
Any Wear OS 3 or later watch that pairs with your Android phone, including Galaxy Watch, Pixel Watch, and other Wear OS devices.
Do I need to install the app on my watch?
When you install Glucose Watch - Dexcom Companion on your phone, the watch app is usually installed automatically on your paired Wear OS watch. If it doesn't appear: (1) Make sure your watch is paired with your phone via Bluetooth. (2) Reinstall the phone app while the watch is connected. (3) Or open the Play Store on your watch and search for "Glucose Watch - Dexcom Companion" to install it manually.
How do I add glucose to my watch face?
(1) Long-press your watch face. (2) Tap Customize. (3) Swipe to the Complications screen. (4) Tap a complication slot. (5) Choose "Glucose Watch - Dexcom Companion / Glucose".
Note: not every watch face has customizable complication slots. If your face doesn't offer a slot, switch to one that does — Info Brick, Digital, and Info Board are confirmed to work well.
The complication doesn't appear in the list when I try to add it
Some watch faces only accept certain complication types, so the Glucose complication may not be offered in every slot. Try a different slot, or switch to a different Samsung watch face — Info Brick, Digital, and Info Board are confirmed to work. The tile is a reliable alternative that doesn't need a complication slot.
Which watch faces work with Glucose Watch?
Confirmed working: Info Brick, Digital, and Info Board. Some faces, such as Bloom and Basic Dashboard, have limited or fixed complication slots and may not offer a slot the Glucose complication fits into.
How do I add the glucose tile?
Swipe left from the watch face (touch the right edge and swipe toward the left) to open the tiles. Long-press a tile slot and add the "Glucose" tile from Glucose Watch - Dexcom Companion.
The tile requires a swipe — can I see readings without swiping?
Yes. Add the Glucose complication to your watch face — it shows your reading at all times without swiping or opening anything, like a steps or weather complication. See "How do I add glucose to my watch face?" above.
Why do I need to grant notification access?
The app reads Dexcom Quick Glance notifications to extract glucose values. It only processes Dexcom notifications and does not read other notifications.
Is my glucose data sent to any server?
No. All processing happens locally on your device. Glucose data is only sent between your phone and watch over Bluetooth.
Does the app require an account?
No. There is no sign-in or account required.
Glucose is not showing on my watch. What should I check?
Ensure: (1) Notification access is granted, (2) Quick Glance is enabled in the Dexcom app, (3) Phone and watch are paired via Bluetooth, (4) The complication or tile is added correctly. Try "Resend to Watch" in the app.
The app shows "Waiting for first Dexcom notification." What does that mean?
The app hasn't received a glucose reading yet. It works by reading Quick Glance notifications from your Dexcom app — once your sensor sends one, your reading will appear automatically.
Check: (1) Quick Glance is enabled in the Dexcom app under Profile. (2) Your Dexcom sensor is active and in range. (3) Notification access is granted to Glucose Watch. (4) Dexcom notifications are not silenced and all notification categories are enabled in Android notification settings.
The app says "Sync: Failed". What does that mean?
The watch did not confirm receiving the data. Check that the watch is connected and try "Resend to Watch".
Readings are outdated or missing.
Dexcom sends Quick Glance notifications about every 5 minutes. If you don't see new readings, ensure Quick Glance is enabled and the Dexcom app is working.
The app worked at first, then stopped updating after a while. Why?
Android sometimes kills the background listener that captures Dexcom readings — most often due to battery optimization, typically after the app has been running unattended for a day or so. Set battery optimization to Unrestricted for both Glucose Watch and the Dexcom app (Settings > Apps > [app] > Battery > Unrestricted), then restart your phone.
If it still happens, force-stop Glucose Watch and reopen it — opening the app reconnects the listener. If readings don't resume, send us diagnostics via the Help button as soon as you notice the stop.
Is this app affiliated with Dexcom?
No. Glucose Watch - Dexcom Companion is not affiliated with or endorsed by Dexcom.
Is this a medical device?
No. It is for convenience only. Always rely on your Dexcom app and CGM for medical decisions.
What is the Post-meal walk timer?
The Post-meal walk timer is a configurable countdown (10–60 minutes, default 15) that helps you time when to start walking after a meal. Tap the "Start timer" button on the glucose tile or tap the glucose complication on your watch face to open it. Use the − and + buttons to set the duration when the timer is not running. The timer shows your current glucose reading and updates when new data arrives.
How do I start the Post-meal walk timer?
On your watch: tap the "Start timer" button on the glucose tile (swipe left from the watch face), or tap the glucose complication on your watch face. Both open the timer screen where you can start, pause, resume, or reset the timer.
Why does the timer need alarm permission?
The timer uses an alarm to notify you when the set time is up, even if the watch screen is off. Grant "Alarms & reminders" in your watch settings so the timer can alert you on time.
The timer screen is cut off. How do I scroll?
The timer screen is scrollable. Use the watch bezel (rotary crown) to scroll up and down when content is taller than the screen.
